CBD Oil: The Complete Guide – What Is CBD, How It Works, and How to Choose
Everything about CBD oil – from the endocannabinoid system to proper dosing. Differences between full spectrum and isolate, legal status in Croatia.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 cannabinoids present in the Cannabis sativa plant. Unlike THC, CBD does not cause psychoactive effects ("high") but shows a range of therapeutic properties confirmed by clinical research.
How Does CBD Work in the Body?
Our body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that regulates numerous physiological processes including pain, mood, sleep, appetite, and immunity. The ECS consists of endocannabinoids, receptors (CB1 and CB2), and enzymes.
CBD doesn't bind directly to CB1 and CB2 receptors but acts indirectly – modulating their activity and influencing levels of endogenous cannabinoids like anandamide. It also activates serotonin (5-HT1A), vanilloid (TRPV1), and GPR55 receptors.

Types of CBD Products
Type

Advantages
Disadvantages
Full Spectrum
CBD + THC (<0.2%) + other cannabinoids + terpenes
Entourage effect, most effective
May contain traces of THC
Broad Spectrum
CBD + other cannabinoids + terpenes, WITHOUT THC
Entourage effect without THC
Slightly less effective than full spectrum
CBD Isolate
Only pure CBD (99%+)
No THC, no smell/taste
No entourage effect
What Is the Entourage Effect? When all cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids are used together, they enhance each other's effects. Full spectrum CBD is therefore more effective than pure CBD isolate.
●Type – Full spectrum for maximum effectiveness, isolate to avoid THC
●Hemp source – Organic farming, pesticide-free, European hemp
●Lab tests – COA (Certificate of Analysis) from an independent laboratory
●Extraction method – CO2 extraction is the purest and safest
●Carrier oil – MCT coconut oil for the best bioavailability
Proper CBD Dosing
There is no universal CBD dose as it depends on body weight, metabolism, desired effect, and individual sensitivity. The "Start Low, Go Slow" principle is recommended.
